The Fairway Bunker Shot

By Todd Wagner, Manager of the Kohler Golf Academy

Follow these tips when you find yourself in one of many fairway bunkers at Destination Kohler.
* Test the sand with your feet by digging in with your heels. Dig until your feet hit the bottom of the sand, which is generally about an inch.
* Choke down on the club about an inch to offset your lower center of gravity.
* Stand wider than normal and play the ball a bit forward in your stance to ensure you strike the ball slightly on the upswing.
* Take an extra club or two when choosing for distance.
* Use a three-quarter swing and keep your feet and knees quiet during your swing. * Sweep vs. hitting down on the golf ball and imagine the ball is sitting on a cart path, not to bang into the pavement.
