Sedona Golf Resort

Red Rock Wonder

Situated in Northern Arizona, the Sedona Golf Resort offers golf in an environment famous for its towering red rock formations and spectacular vistas. The scenery, paired with a well-manicured and exciting course, ensures that the Sedona Golf Resort experience will not be forgotten.

The Sedona Golf Resort is an 18-hole, links style course that takes golfers through the wooded high plains desert. Overly lush grounds and elevation ranging from 3,960 feet up to 4,260 feet create an exciting and challenging round of golf. Elevated tees provide views of the surrounding mesas and allow players the opportunity to launch a few enormous drives as they begin several of the roller-coaster holes. The course, which opened in 1988, was designed by Scottsdale-based architect Gary Panks and measures between 5,059 and 6,646 yards.

The John Jacobs’ Golf School, regularly scheduled women’s clinics, full range of instruction and all the accompanying practice facilities ensure that golfers have every opportunity to improve their games while in Sedona.

The 17,000 square-foot clubhouse welcomes golfers before and after their rounds. The pro shop

provides an extensive line of golf equipment as well as men’s and women’s apparel. The clubhouse comes complete with locker rooms, a bar, an expansive patio, fireplaces and excellent views of the red rocks. The Grill serves breakfast and lunch daily in a 150-seat dining area.

Although the Sedona Golf Resort does not have its own lodging, there are many options nearby as well as throughout the town of Sedona. See the Sedona Golf Resort’s website for accommodation options at http://www.sedonagolfresort.com/Sedona-Hotels.asp.

Sedona and the neighboring town of Oak Creek are surrounded by state and national parks which create an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. The 1.8 million acre Coconino National Forest, home to magnificent ponderosa pines, snow-capped peaks, crystal clear streams, canyons and elevations of 12,000 feet, is among the areas many natural endowments. Along with the golf, biking and hiking are excellent activities to experience the breath-taking scenery. Better still, the tranquil winds, open areas and jaw-dropping rock formations provide an outstanding area for that once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon ride. Pink Jeep Tours and horseback riding are also wonderful ways to explore the area.

The town of Sedona is very modern yet rustic at the same time. In fact the town has developed while surrounding areas have remained unchanged for thousands of years. It was this untamed quality that attracted the attention of Hollywood as many of the best westerns were filmed in the areas surrounding Sedona. This distinct natural beauty found nowhere else in the world continues to attract many visitors each year.

What I liked about the Sedona Golf Resort – The Sedona Golf Resort is truly a unique golfing experience. The lush golf course seems to be placed in some other-worldly environment due to the surrounding cliffs and red rock formations. Whether Sedona is your final retreat destination or a one-day stop on your way to the Grand Canyon or other final destination, check out the Sedona Golf Resort for a memorable golf experience.

I would like to thank Ryan Stemsrud, Director of Golf, and Cliff Yohe, Head Golf Professional, for their time and hospitality during my visit.
