July 19, 2008 - Website Update
Welcome again to the President’s Corner. Here I’ll let you know what’s going on with our company and our website. News, upcoming events and similar items will be described here. This portion of the website will be updated approximately every week so you may want to check back often. We’ll also archive the previous President’s Corners and make them easy to find.
The Travel Center has been updated to feature the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa just southeast of Austin, Texas (www.lostpines.hyatt.com). We would like to thank everyone at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa for their time and hospitality during our visit. You can read about the resort and the Wolfdancer Golf Club in the Travel Center. Pictures of the resort should be coming soon.
We recently returned from a trip to the mid-Atlantic region of the country where we visited several top-rated golf resorts including Kingsmill Resort & Spa in Williamsburg, Virginia (www.kingsmill.com) and the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania (www.nemacolin.com). Both resorts are great locations to get away and enjoy some great golf, food and accommodations. Look for these resorts to be featured in our Travel Center in the coming weeks. If anyone has an idea for a featured destination, please let us know.
We continue to work on the Blogs page. As explained on the Blogs page, the Blogs are really more of a forum or a discussion board. The difference is that with a Blog, 1 person writes (“blogs”) about a specific topic over a period of time while other people make comments about the person’s blog. A forum or discussion board, on the other hand, is a dialogue among many different people. So the Administrator (me or someone from My Golf Book) sets the areas of discussion and people write entries such as questions or answers to other people’s questions. Think of it as a large meeting spaced out over time. You can ask a question about anything (even items not related to golf or to your golfing experience) and have someone else respond with an answer. It’s a great way to remove distance and time boundaries and reach people anywhere.
The situation with the Blogs (or forums) is that we’re trying to make them as easy to use as possible. This means splitting up the men’s section and the women’s section and using color coding so that everyone easily understands where to go and what to do. We want there to be a maximum of a 10 second learning curve. Most forums use lists, which is what currently is in our Blogs page. I find these extremely user unfriendly. We currently are using these as a placeholder until we finalize the more user friendly page. You can still post comments if you wish but once our intended forum page is up and running, everyone will be capable of using the forums easily. Our goal with the forums is to make them so easy and straight forward to use that even somebody that has never used a Blog or a forum and doesn’t feel comfortable with technology can easily use the forums and even look forward to using them. You’ll clearly see a difference when we launch our new forum page. For now, you can still post comments and everything should transfer to our new page.
If there is a question about our books or our website, please let us know.
Thanks for visiting our website.
Enjoy your game.
Chris
